Title: “The Power of Dungeons & Dragons: A Study on Mental Health Benefits and Self-Concepts

1 min read

A recent academic study conducted by researchers from James Cook University in Australia found that playing Dungeons & Dragons can have positive effects on mental health over time. The study involved participants playing an eight-session campaign of the game led by experienced Dungeon Masters. All participants followed the same module created by the Dungeon Masters. Surveys were conducted before, during, and after the study, with participants showing improvements in depression, stress, anxiety, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. Although the study had limitations such as a small sample size and lack of randomized controlled comparisons, the results suggest that D&D could be a beneficial tool for mental well-being. The study was published in the Games for Health Journal.
